Mark, I truly appreciate the opportunity to discuss my career and my association with Johnny Carson, Jerry Lewis and others. I hope your listeners enjoy the history. I must make a correction to something I said during our unrehearsed discussion: I did not manage Jerry Lewis in the 1980s. I meant to say that I managed Jerry when he was in his late 70s and well into his 80s. After my uncle, Ernest D. Glucksman and Jerry parted ways in 1964, A great guy named Joe Stabile took over the task of being Jerry’s manager. Joe was the brother of Martin & Lewis’ longtime orchestra leader, Dick Stabile. Joe Stabile was much like my uncle in that he was even-tempered and protected Jerry from his fans and vis versa. He was a good businessman. I became Jerry’s manager (even though Jerry was often unmanageable) sometime after Joe’s passing. I detail exactly how and why I became Jerry’s personal representative in my upcoming book titled, “The REAL Jerry Lewis Story” which should be available in hardcover towards the end of 2018. It’s an amazing story which includes a favor Jerry did for me and the nation by helping to prolong the life of my friend and client, and one of America’s entertainment treasures. I’ll keep you posted on the book’s release. All the best, Rick Saphire.
