Mark, I discovered your fine podcast about 3 weeks ago. I’ve been binge-listening ever since. Thank you for this amazing contribution to the historical record. Your questions are spot-on. Thus far, my fave has to be Dick Cavett’s second interview (100th). I was sad to hear it end. (I live in Vermont— mowed my 3 acre lawn while listening.)

Particularly fond of the cue card gentleman. The behind-the-scenes people, how refreshingly authentic!

I am from Lowell, Mass., home of Ed McMahon, who delivered my grandparents’ newspaper! He actually started in radio at WLLH (1400 Lowell) before moving on to Philly.

Please keep up the good work, Mark!

    Regards,

Thanks, Bill! The 100th episode with Dick Cavett was a good time. He stayed afterward for an hour while I showed him old clips of him on the Tonight Show.

  2. I love this. I am 62 years old and I still miss the Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson. There was no better time in TV history then when we had the choice of Johnny Carson, Dick Cavett or Joey Bishop… And to listen to Doc…. oh my god… I was in the 7th grade in the percussion section playing either the cymbals or bass drum and sometimes I would be allowed to stay up just to see Doc Severinsen play on the tonight show… I had a teacher that was almost as hip as Doc… in the band class.. I think its because of Doc and Mr. Roper at Roosevelt jr high in Wichita, Kansas… (no longer exists) that I became so attached to music/progressive music. My dad was a great pianist and vocalist, but he was old school, he couldnt tolerate jazz or rock music..

Thanks again Doc… at 92 years old, you inspire me to keep producing music and working on music. I know its not in vain and I am not useless and wasteful. #WarrenProject

Glad you enjoyed Doc’s return episode! Love that he hasn’t slowed down.
